Northern & Southern Dynasties 2024 Spring. Part II.

Lam’s Gallery is pleased to present the second part of the special exhibition on the Northern and Southern Dynasties, ‘The Lotus Heart of a Thousand Years’. This exhibition explores the North and South Dynasties, an era of all-embracing tolerance and continuity. The beauty of the North and South Dynasties is the beauty of the blossoming of different cultures. Among other things, the rise of Buddhism led to the popularity of its associated motifs in China, with the lotus flower, a symbol of Buddhism, often used as the shape and motif of vessels; and celadon porcelain from the south was also widely accepted in the north.

The motif of the lotus flower rose gradually with the introduction of Buddhism into China, reaching a peak during the Northern Dynasties, and was repeated many times on later objects, especially during the Five Dynasties and the Song Dynasty. This continuous process of innovation and evolution, like a symphony of ancient Chinese art, has shaken people’s hearts and reverberated through the ages.

Northern & Southern Dynasties 2024 Spring. Part I.

Lam’s Gallery is pleased to present the second online exhibition, Northern & Southern Dynasty. The North and South Dynasties (439-589) were a period of chaos and disaster, which not only tested the resilience of human nature, but also gave rise to the birth of finest art in Chinese History.

The beauty of the Northern and Southern Dynasties is the beauty of difference through the fusion and collision of different cultures. The rise of Buddhism led to the popularity of its associated motifs in China, with the lotus flower, a symbol of Buddhism, often used as a vessel shape and motif; while celadon from the south was widely accepted in the north. The production of celadon glazes became increasingly widespread in Chinese ceramics, and this was a pivotal era in the history of Chinese art.

The depth and breadth of the fireworks display of different materials in China during this era established the North and South Dynasties as an unassailable part of Chinese art history. Craftsmen resisted the uncertainty time and again with the true beauty of their hearts, and this silent, spiritual power, which comes from the resilience of human nature, is so vast and majestic that it penetrates time and shakes the heart.

This is undoubtedly an era that deserves to be studied and learnt from. Through this ‘Pineheart Cangchui Special Exhibition on the Northern and Southern Dynasties’, Pineheart hopes to share with you the different artefacts of this era, and we cordially invite you to embark on a journey of the Northern and Southern Dynasties with us.

HOMECOMING 2023 Autumn Show.

Lam’s Gallery is happy to launch the Online Gallery on the 9th Oct 2023, featuring the inaugural exhibition “Homecoming” with a selection of Chinese Art from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; UK Collectors Alfred Clark, Lord Cunliffe, and Swedish collector Carl Kempe of the Oriental Ceramic Society, London; US Collector Stephen Junkunc III, Arthur Sackler, Federick Meyer and Robert H. Ellsworth.

‘Homecoming’ is a series of scholarly oriented objects that ignited true passion of the previous generation of connoisseurs a century ago. Their legends and stories passed on through objects they treasured and studied over lifelong discussion, debates and laughters in scholarly gatherings, meetings and exhibitions.

Served and acted as ambassadors for the entirety of Chinese aesthetics, these objects had encapsulated and bridged the spirits of East and West. It is with tremendous pleasure and honor that Lam’s Gallery is announcing their homecoming to Hong Kong, and we invite you to join the journey with us.
